Councillor Announcements from the Meeting:

Councillor Nicholson said that a wildland fire happened off of Grant Settlement Road, damaging softwood trees before it was brought under control by the Volunteer Firefighters of the Township on Mother’s Day.

“As the lead of Emergency services, I want to address the successes we have achieved in the past week.” he said. “The ability to work together as a unit in a very difficult terrain in an environment that they are not familiar with.”

He said there were over 700 man-hours to fight, 250 firefighters deployed over the 10-acre fire, which was not accessible by vehicle and

He said that fire was contained before another 10-acre softwood area was affected.

“We had drone support provided by the Kowalski family and we had the MNRF crews there to advise, we didn’t have to deploy them due to what we were able to achieve with our guys.”

“Not to mention they gave up their mother’s day dinner.” mayor Moore said.

Reeve Regier congratulated Cindy Jamieson on winning the Marilyn Alexander Tourism Champion Award.

“She’s certainly an active member in our community.” she said. “Hats off to her, job well done. Good job on behalf of the mayor and all of council.”
