RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began investigating after a person was assaulted with an edged weapon near a parking lot in the 400 block of Nelson Street in Pembroke. The incident took place just after 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It was found that the victim had been driving a motor vehicle and had struck the accused, prior to the assault.
A 27 year old Pembroke resident has been arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:
- Aggravated assault; and
- Criminal harassment.
The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released on February 18, to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on March 3.
The driver of the motor vehicle, a 38 year old Pembroke resident, is currently wanted on CC charges of:
- Dangerous operation;
- Assault with a weapon; and
- Assault.
The incident is not considered a random act at this time. There was no threat to public safety. Due to a domestic dispute aspect to the investigation, the names of the accused persons are being withheld to protect the identity of the victims.
An OPP Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO) and OPP’s Forensic Identification Services (FIS) are assisting with the investigation, which is continuing.
