Delegations to recent meetings
Detachment Commander Colin Slight of the Renfrew Detachment of the OPP recently attended a Protective Services Committee to discuss various aspects of policing.
Jennifer Robitaille spoke about the formation of an Eastern Ontario purchasing co-operative at a recent corporate services committee meeting. She spoke about the benefits of bulk purchasing, the types of commodities that would most likely be purchased and the costs of participating.
The commodities could include office supplies, insurance, road salt, fuel, traffic signs, website maintenance and design, culverts, shredding and lubricants.
In the end, the committee agreed to discuss the idea at budget time, as it could then compare some of the pricing numbers.
Jim Buckingham from Ottawa River Energy Solutions also spoke to the committee about a solar energy implementation project on various rooftops of buildings owned by the township.
Following a 45 minute discussion, it was agreed if council wanted to move forward, the agreement could be signed at the October council meeting.
Table donated to Whitewater Bromley Community Health Centre
The large maple conference table that was located in the former Westmeath Township office has a new home.
Council donated the table to the Whitewater Bromley Community Health Centre. It will be relocated to the Beachburg site.
“That’s a great home for it,” said Mayor Hal Johnson. “I did not want to see it go someplace where it could get coffee stained and all marked up.”
Surplus equipment to be tendered
Surplus equipment owned by the Township of Whitewater Region will soon be up for tender.
At a recent public works committee meeting, it was agreed to transfer one surplus truck to the Ross Waste Site for off-road usage.
Mayor Hal Johnson suggested that all other surplus equipment be put up to tender with no reserve bids and any not sold, they go for collection by B-Line.
