Museum Interpretive Guide
WHITEWATER REGION (Foresters Falls) — The Whitewater Historical Society is pleased to present its annual BBQ and Pioneer Day at the Ross Museum in Foresters Falls. The event is this Saturday, June 24th from 11 a.m. to 4 p .m. and assists in fundraising for the Museum.
Pioneer Day will consist of live music, a BBQ, and a bake sale. There are also demonstrations on some of the practises of early settlers including butter churning and quilting. Pioneer Day at Ross Museum promotes learning about the rich history of Canada in a fun and friendly environment. Come on out for lunch and learn something new!
In addition to the event this coming Saturday, the Museum will feature a display to celebrate National Aboriginal Day which will assist in a comprehensive understanding of the First Nation history. For many people this exhibit will prove to be an informative venture into the unknown.
Though Canada moves forward in celebration of its 150th birthday it must be acknowledged that this country was founded on controversy and violence between colonists and Aboriginal cultures. The early history of Canada is a dark period that must be shared with future generations. Only by understanding this complex and convoluted history can there ever be a proper attempt at reconciling the damaging impact of European settlers.
It would not be difficult to dispute that Canada as a nation has made constant improvements in regard to providing a form of reconciliation for First Nations. Examples include the financial reconciliation given by the Canadian government to First Nations who were directly impacted by residential schools and the action of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to prompt a public apology from the pope for residential schools. Even though there have been some well-intentioned steps towards repairing the damaged First Nation culture, it is important to recognize there is a considerable way to go in terms of the progress thus far. This new exhibit at the Ross Museum is a great way to enrich your knowledge of First Nation culture and to support your local museum.
