Six Whitewater Region graduating high school students were each presented with $250 bursaries from the township, an initiative that began two years ago. Each high school that serves the municipality chooses one student from the township to receive the bursary. This year’s recipients were presented with certificates and cheques at last week’s council meeting. In the front are, from left, Brianna Brown, graduating from Centre Scolaire Catholique Jeanne-Lajoie Secondary School in Pembroke and Madison Tomasini, a graduate of Opeongo High School. Back row from left, Johnathan Ellis, a graduate of St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Renfrew; Mayor Hal Johnson; Justin Dixon, graduating from Fellowes High School in Pembroke and Dawson Cuff of Renfrew Collegiate. Missing is Sherry Ethier from Bishop Smith Catholic High School in Pembroke. Sherry is going to Trent University to study psychology; Justin is studying police foundations at Algonquin College; Madison is attending Carleton University in the Bachelor of Arts and Psychology program; Brianna is attending the University of Ottawa; Johnathan is entering the food industry to become a cook, and Dawson is entering the workforce.
