WHITEWATER REGION — Whitewater Region council agreed to write a letter of support for its fire chief.

Fire Chief Jonathan Wilker was appointed to the position of alternative fire co-ordinator for the county’s mutual aid program, however, a letter of support from council is required.

Currently, Chief Dan Herback of Pembroke is the Fire Co-ordinator for the County of Renfrew, but it has been decided to add an alternative fire co-ordinator, Chief Wilker explained to council at its meeting last Wednesday.

There are no financial implications to the municipality, he added.

“I’d like to offer my expertise to the local chiefs and mutual aid program,” he said.

Councillor Chris Olmstead said this is a bonus for the township.

“Just reading through the report, I think it would be a nice feather in the cap of the township as well as the chief to be involved at the county level,” he said.
