WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — The top three officers of the Cobden Agricultural Society were acclaimed to their positions at the first board meeting following Tuesday night’s annual general meeting.
Tara Tennant remains president with Steve Schultz and Megan Lariviere acclaimed first and second vice president respectively.
Prior to the board meeting, was the annual general meeting. Acclaimed to the board for a three-year term were Dorothy Edwards, Ms. Lariviere, Pat O’Neil and Tim Egan. Each director is elected/acclaimed for a three-year term. Ms. Edwards, Ms. Lariviere and Mr. O’Neil were previous directors.
The directors fulfilling their terms for 2018 are Meredith Mulligan, Ms. Tennant and Mark Lafont while two-year directors, whose term ends in 2019 are Stewart McBride, John ‘Gorman, Steve Schultz, Zabrina Bielaskie and Brian Burwell.
“Thank you for your hard work,” Ms. Tennant said opening the AGM. “It was a really fun (Cobden) fair and was well received by the community.
“Thank you to the volunteers and sponsors who helped made the Cobden Fair a great event in 2017.”
She was looking forward to hearing the various reports from the fair, as well as the general operation of the society.
Ms. Tennant noted the society is currently operating without a secretary/treasurer following the resignation of Karen Campbell. However, until a person is hired to fill the position, Ms. Campbell has agreed to remain, she added.
“We do appreciate how much work Karen did for us,” she said. “When you see her, say thanks.”
There were various reports spoken about, including financial, auction sales; road supervisors’ dinner, beef show, dairy show, demolition derby, entertainment, sheep show, sponsorship, field crop, horse show, junior directors and a few others.
The AGM was adjourned followed by the first board meeting, in which the only discussion was the election of the top three positions.
