COBDEN — Bonnie Helferty was “quite pleased” at the completion of the Terry Fox Run held at Logos Land near Cobden on Sunday.
Organizing the event since 1998, Ms. Helferty noted more than $100,000 has been raised by the Cobden run.
“There were 101 participants this year and we raised $5,875,” she said.
That brings the total for the Cobden run to about $106,000, she said.
“$100,000 is such a magic number,” she said. “I was hoping we’d reach the $100,000 and we did.”
Ms. Helferty noted while there are many of the same people who participate year after year, there are also a few new ones.
But then, there are also a few participants missing. One of the missing ones this year is Ms. Helferty’s sister Faye Bloedow, who died of cancer last December.
Ms. Helferty said who would have thought that when she answered an ad 18 years ago to be the organizer of the Terry Fox Run for Cobden, she’d still be doing it today.
The two Don’s — Don Helferty and Don Rathwell — were manning the barbecue, as they have done for many years. Once the participants finished the walk, they were encouraged to enjoy some apples, a hot dog or two and refreshments.
