COBDEN — Whitewater Region council feels waste reduction should be every day, not just one week a year.
Council discussed a motion endorsing Oct. 19 to 25 as Waste Reduction Week at its Sept. 16 council meeting.
Raised on a farm, recycling was a way of life, Mayor Hal Johnson said.
Councillor Daryl McLaughlin said council should endorse the week, but added, “I’m thinking, this really should be every day, not just one week.”
Bringing in some humour, Coun. McLaughlin noted the day it starts is election day, so it’s a good day to start.
Mayor Johnson agreed, saying, “We should be looking at recycling and reducing waste year-round.
“I’m pretty sure people are starting do get that idea,” he said.
