Council’s Wrongheaded Decision

Council’s Wrongheaded Decision. Earlier this year Hydro Bay residents learned that most of Cedar Haven Road and part of Hydro Bay Road, up to Mowat Road, was to be resurfaced. Residents who use Hydro Bay Road gathered a petition and made a presentation to Council asking that the resurfacing continue a further 300 to 400 yards further up the hill to repair one of the worst sections of road in the Township.

Petitioners were told that the extra cost wasn’t included in the current budget and would be considered next year.

Council’s shortsighted choice was wrong for two reasons:

1. Financially, It will cost more to bring in equipment which was already in area to do the small section road repair a few months later.

2. Politically, there is an election coming next year. Ignoring a group of ratepayers specific request will have a cost.

The resurfacing is finished on Cedar Haven and Hydro Bay Roads and it was nicely done. That said, over the weekend we’ve had 3 couples visit from out of the area and all of them mentioned the hill and commented and I quote “the stupidity of not finishing the job”.

In the meantime Council can rest assured Hydro Bay Road users will have them in mind as we wend our way around the winding hill doing our best to miss the pot holes and very rough section over the poorly installed culvert.

We demand better local governance.
