WHITEWATER REGION — A 20-year-old Pembroke man has been charged with failing to drive in a marked lane following a single-vehicle roll-over late afternoon Friday, March 23.

Renfrew OPP report Joseph Bourgeau was driving a grey, 1999 Chev Silverado on Hwy. 17 just before 4 p.m., when it left the highway, hit a culvert and flipped.

Mr. Bourgeau was transported by ambulance to Renfrew Victoria Hospital with minor injuries.

Tymen VanLindenberg was walking up his driveway to the highway to meet up with his children as they were being dropped off by a school bus.

He wrote on his facebook page: “The bus had stopped with lights flashing and was about to let the kids out. (The truck) driver coming from Cobden heading towards Renfrew couldn’t stop in time and took the ditch flipping several times before landing 10 feet in front of me.

“Thankful (the) driver crawled out on his own, thankful kids were on the bus and none hurt, thankful to many who stopped to help out and thankful I wasn’t hit.”

Mr. VanLindenberg doesn’t know why the driver of the truck, which was following another truck behind the bus, wasn’t able to stop.

“This is a reminder for people to slow down and pay attention to what’s happening on the road, especially with flashing red school bus lights,” he concluded on his facebook post.
