HALEY STATION — Helferty’s Disaster Restoration employees were preparing to board up a house that had burned during the early morning hours, when they noticed smoke coming out of the roof.
A call out to the Whitewater Region fire department was made once again, this time, nine hours after the first call.
Deputy-Chief Mike Moore said shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, firefighters received the 911 call about a house fire on Mineview Road near Haley Station.
“All the fire stations responded because we had to haul water,” he said.
Around 8:30 a.m., the final truck left.
However, at 10:30 a.m., firefighters were paged again to the same home.
“The wind picked up and the roof strapping over the kitchen re-ignited,” Deputy-Chief Moore said.
Within 20 minutes the fire was out and the firefighters departed, he said.
There were two people in the home at the time, along with their dog, and all got out safely.
It’s believed the cause of the fire is electrical.
