WHITEWATER REGION — Whitewater Region council passed a bylaw to give effect to a new five-year agreement with CUPE Local 4353 representing roads staff.

The agreements runs from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2023. It combines four job classes into one driver/operator classification. This will allow the township to assign work and equipment based on priorities and projects rather than position. Driver/operators will have an hourly rate of $23.77 beginning July 1. Annual adjustments have been set as follows:

Jan. 1, 2019: .5 percent; Jan. 1. 2020: 1.5 percent; Jan. 1, 2021: 1.5 percent; Jan. 1, 2022: 1.75 percent and 2 percent on Jan. 1, 2023.

Lead hand duties will be assigned when needed with a $2 per hour premium.

Changes were also implemented to the township’s financial services area with existing staff being re-organized into two teams with one focused on revenue and the second working on accounts payable.

Chief Administrative Officer Robert Tremblay has been assigned the statutory duties of the treasurer in addition to his duties as clerk.

“The five-year agreement with our union is a sign of continued good working relations with our workers,” said Whitewater Region Mayor Hal Johnson.

CAO Tremblay said, “We continue to look at ways to improve operations and performance. I thank staff for their ongoing work and dedication.”
