RENFREW COUNTY (Petawawa) — On January 31 and February 1, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged four drivers with operating a motor vehicle while performing a stunt – speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The charges resulted after the drivers exceeded the posted limit by 50 km/h or more. The charge details are as follows:
On the morning of January 31, a 34 year old driver from Deep River was caught driving 154 km/h on Highway 17 in Petawawa. Later that same morning a 17 year old driver with a G2 licence from Deep River was caught driving 158 km/h on Highway 17 in Petawawa.
On the morning of February 1, a 32 year old driver from Russell Township was caught driving 141 km/h on Highway 17 in Whitewater Region. Later that afternoon a 49 year old driver from Ottawa was caught driving 141 km/h on Highway 17 in Laurentian Valley Township.
All drivers were driving in a posted 90 km/h zone at the time of the offences. All four drivers were issued a summons to appear at the Ontario Provincial Offences Court in Pembroke. They also had their drivers licences suspended and their vehicles impounded for a period of seven days.
