The Council of the Township of Whitewater Region called on the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry, Ontario Power Generation and Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board (ORPB) to install a hydrometer and/or a staff gauge in the Westmeath area and that the data collected from this point be included in ORRPB reported data.

Nicholson put forward the motion to install a hydrometer at the Ottawa River near Westmeath in order to better detect rising currents.

He said that the water levels at the area increase to over “one meter higher” than it normally is.

“We need to put in a system more specific to determine the water before it reaches the rapids.” he said.

He said that there needs to be a new meter up near Westmeath rather than what is present, due to the fear of flooding.

No questions were asked, and the motion was carried.
