The Council of the Township of Whitewater Region received a report for information and public consultation purposes, for 2114 Pleasant Valley Road.

Burton said that they ‘had not made a recommendation’ based on the property, and was requesting additional information

Elo Martin was the applicant and was present at the meeting.

Hes said that an amendment was filed to place the property in the Agricultural exemption zone,

The application was seeking to overturn the agreement that the property not be used as “a primary source of outcome.”

He said that the agreement forbids commercial breeding and kennels, but that the applicant wishes to overturn that , and the property“Already has a kennel there.”

“The area is within a prime agricultural area. It’s designated as an agricultural zone.” Burton said. “A kennel can be used as a home occupation if it meets the criteria.”

The requirements included the project be limited in area, consist of home occupations home industries, and be compatible with surrounding agricultural operations

Burton said that he planned to bring a report next week with a recommendation on the application.

Mr. Martin spoke as well.

“When we bought the property, we set up in the old barn a section insulated and we had a few dogs there.” he said. “Every year I’ve paid my dog tags every year. Last year we applied a permit to build a kennel, an I was told that I could not build a kennel as he did not have a kennel license.”

He said that as per the by-law most of his dogs were not SPCA registered, and discovered the zoning was incorrect.

“I don’t feel I’ve ever done anything behind the township’s back.” he said. “Anyof you give me a call, and I’ll give you a tour of the place. If you have concerns, you can speak with my vet.”

Burton added they had received a letter from an adjacent property that was sent to members of council, and received a new letter from one ‘Harvey Martin’, to be added next week. As well as an email from the property owner north of it, to be added to the report.

The Mayor asked any councillors to send any questions via email to Ivan Burton for inclusion in the final report next week.

The motion was carried.
