The Council heard a motion that:

  1. That Council of the Township of Whitewater Region authorize entering into Site Plan Agreements with the owners/applicants  to govern the construction of communication towers at the properties located at 987 Grants Settlement Road, 1744 Bromley Line, 1100 Lookout Road and 3479 McLaughlin Road.
  2. That Council of the Township of Whitewater Region approve, in principle, the installation of a communication tower and infrastructure at the municipally-owned properties at 990 Kohlsmith Road (Landfill) and 44 Gould Street (Cobden Water Tower) and, direct staff to bring forward an agreement with Whitewater Internet.
Planner Ivan Burton said that motion referred to Whitewater Internet Solution’s intent to build five internet towers in the region.

“They’re looking to expand their line.” Burton said, saying that it would aid the Township’s development of internet access.

He said that the Fire Department was looking to use the towers to expand their network of communication.

“It’s to cover dead spots” said Mayor Moore, referring to areas where wireless connections don’t function.

Councilor Mackay, Jackson, and Nicholson praised the company.

“They’ve grown in leaps and bounds over the last two years.” Nicholson said.

He also said the towers were shorter, so had less impact, but that they otherwise “followed all the same procedures.”

He thanked staff for “taking the strategic direction” to encourage this kind of development.

The motion was carried.
