WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) —
While most girls entered the 2019 Miss Teen Ontario East Pageant with hopes of winning the crown, 15 year old Khloe Bertrand had her sights set on winning the talent portion. It was her first time competing and she really wanted it — so she got it.
Taking singing lessons for the past seven years has been a pleasure for Miss. Bertrand, as she sang long before she began lessons. “I love the emotions you experience [while singing],” she said. “It’s also a really great form of stress release.” Valuing vocal range and abilities, along with meaningful lyrics, Adele is the artist Miss. Bertrand admires most.
In grade nine at Opeongo High School, she lends her talent to variety shows and showcases. Most recently, the students held a walk-in and the protest showcased student talent. It focused on the grade nine population because they have more time left in their high school careers.
Her family home is full of support from her parents, Marc and Kerri Bertrand, who beam with pride as they talk about their daughter and her accomplishments. They also make an hour and a half drive to the Orléans area of Ottawa for two hour vocal lessons. “We fully support her and drive her all over the place,” said Mrs. Bertrand. “We just love to watch her perform.”
Miss. Bertrand continues to pursue her singing career and has her sights set on Nashville. She stated it was her dream to move there because it’s not only where the key industry people are, but it’s where many artists find their start.
She will be traveling to Kanata on June 22 to walk the red carpet at 7:00 p.m., and will be taking part in a performance for Ottawa Idol.
