Dear Editor:
I was sitting at the cottage the other morning, a beautiful day, reading a very good novel, when suddenly there arose such a clatter.
The boat people had arrived on the Ottawa River. Some hoots and hollers, these people are exited, I can tell.
Then the real annoyance begins. A guide with a voice more suitable for a barker or a busker begins briefing customers on safety, how to wear a helmet, how to wear a life jacket, how to use a paddle. Seriously, should people that inept really be in the rapids. Better yet, yell at them on the bus or on your own property, where the cottagers don’t have to listen.
The worst part of the morning was the inquiry “ Who’s from the GTA?”, met with a resounding roar of approval.
Great, not only are these people disturbing my repose, they are the very ones responsible for the woes of our Province, the very voters who keep the Liberals in power, the very ones who bring us green energy and global warming twaddle, the reason our taxes on the Ottawa River are out to lunch, while their’s in Toronto The Great are the cheapest in the Province.
I am glad the rafting companies are making money on our river, but they are not lowering our taxes any, and there is very little trickle down for anyone. Jam people onto an infrastructure that can’t handle them and someone is going to have a bad day.
Sincerely,
W. Ira Byce
