Changes

I remember as a child
The excitement on Christmas Eve
Knowing in the mornings light
I would open the gifts I received

But over the past few years or so
That excitement has grown dim
I find myself thinking more
Of Him

I was taught the meaning of Christmas
And the birthday boy’s name
We took time to honor him in Church
There was a reason for his fame

Now, when I hear children chatter
About Santa Clauses big day
I wonder why they do not mention
The babe that laid in hay

Jesus was the babe I speak of
Born in a manger so meek
With his parents there to warm him
And angels there to speak

Of the glory of this baby
And the work he will do on Earth
Christmas seems different for me now
As I know Jesus’s worth
