Councillor Jackson asked the process of lifting a postponement on a previous motion, about the agreement to a question regarding a partnership to an agreement with Wilderness Tours to provide emergency assistance, which was postponed pending the answer to a question.
He said that he felt the proponent seemed to imply they would be an emergency service, which he said was not the case.
“I think that Wilderness Tours thinks that in the event of a boating ban, this will let them be on the river, and I have clarified that is not the intent.” CAO Trembley said.
She said she would bring the motion on October 6th, to allow for staff to follow up.
“I’ve been in communication with Mr. Kowalski.” CAO Trembley said.
“The goal is not to designate anyone as an essential service. I don’t think we have that power.” Trembley said. “Also, I’ve reiterated that Fire Rescue does not do water services.”
“It might need to be clarified that this is not about declaring essential services, it’s about providing a fee for emergency rescue.”
“It’s important for Kowalski or OWL or Wilderness Tours to have it on their books, but it’s to have it on our books, as well.”
She suggested that they get other professional services who might want to join in.
