COBDEN — “Wow!” said a customer as she walked in the door. “It’s so bright and roomy in here.
“It’s very elegant,” she added.
The customer was Sandy Dick and she was referring to the new location of Main St. Spa, which is actually right on Main Street in Cobden. It was previously located in the space behind Tom’s Barber Shop, which is on Main Street.
An aesthetician and cosmetician, Michelle Dupuis opened Main St. Spa almost 11 years ago.
Ms. Dupuis and partner Shawn Wagner purchased the building at 37 Main Street, spent several weeks fixing it up and on May 5, opened the new location. Some of the renovations included ripping out all the walls, re-wiring the facility, installing new windows and creating a private room for facials, waxing, eye lash extensions/tinting and other services. She noted the inside brick wall was chipped free of its cover and then repainted, many times, white.
“It feels wonderful,” she said a few weeks after re-opening at the new location.. “It’s bright and more spacious.
“The clients love it. They love its brightness.”
And, with a new location, Ms. Dupuis feels regenerated and is adding services to her current business. She’s looking forward to taking a course so she can do artificial nails. She’s also looking to find someone to come in and offer reflexology and massage therapy.
She currently provides body wraps, relaxation massages, a variety of facial treatments, waxing, pedicures and manicures, among other services. A third pedicure sink has also been installed.
Ms. Dupuis said an added bonus is the hallway connecting her business to Studio 646 . Explaining, she said if a bride and her wedding party wanted Studio 646 to do their hair, and she was doing make-up and nails, there would be no need to go outside to get from one appointment to another.
“We can get new clients for each other,” she said.
Ms. Dupuis will continue her business hours of Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We can make alternative appointments if necessary,” she added.
Along with Ms. Dupuis, Rachel Brown, advanced nail technician, also provides services and Kirsten Blaedow of Cobden works at the spa as a co-op student from Opeongo High School.
Ms. Dupuis said the community has supported her business venture for 10 years.
“It’s nice to be in my hometown of Cobden,” she said.
Looking back on the history of the building, Ms. Dupuis knows there have been a variety of businesses in the space she currently has, which have included a funeral home, a furniture shop, an arcade, an ice cream shop, a dollar store, a driving school, painting classes and massage therapy.
