Mayor’s settlement

Dear Editor:

At the All Candidates Meetings for Whitewater Region, there seemed to be a lot of interest in the settlement agreement between Mayor Hal Johnson and Whitewater Region.

For those who are wondering about the settlement that the mayor received I can tell you what I’ve found from my experience.

During my career I’ve had to terminate several non-union employees of the company I worked for.

The company’s labour lawyers in Toronto advised that the standard for non-union staff is one month of salary for every year of employment up to a maximum of 24 months. They advised that this is typical even if the case goes to court.

Regardless of the settlement for Mayor Johnson, if the taxpayers of Whitewater Region had to pay, then, in my opinion, they have the right to know the amount.
