After a lengthy illness, Ellis, of Cobden, passed away peacefully with his wife and eldest son by his side at the Caressant Care Nursing Home, March 7. Beloved husband of over 66 years to Beulah (Edwards). Father of Melvin Hawkins (Chrystal), Cheryl Richards (late Andy), Richard Hawkins, MaryLynn O’Brien (Chris) and Janice Mageean (Mitch). Fondly remembered as “the biggest kid in the room” by 12 adoring grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Brother to AEnid McMaster (late Eric). Pre-deceased by daughters Doris and Ruth and two great-grandchildren. Pre-deceased by brothers Willis (Melba) Hawkins and Orland (Tory) Hawkins. Ellis will be remembered as being very community minded. He volunteered his time to many local organizations including the Cobden Legion and the Cobden Civitan, where he was twice named Civitan Of The Year. Ellis will also be remembered as a great storyteller, depicting tales of successful hunts and huge fish, specializing in the ones that got away. A special thank you to the compassionate staff of the Caressant Care Nursing Home. Service will be held at the Whitewater Wesleyan Church, Cobden, on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. The service will be followed by a luncheon and visitation in the reception area of the church. By family request, donations can be made to The Lung Association.
