MP Gallant brings derision to our area with her claims

Dear Editor,

MP Cheryl Gallant recently made national news again.

A video she posted on Gallant Night News in July 2017 resurfaced. PembrokeToday.ca states that, in the original, Gallant shared the screen with Tom Harris, Executive Director of the International Climate Science Coalition (ICSC). In their research, Harris and the ICSC refer to climate change as “climate scare”. Instead of supporting measures to limit or reverse climate change they put the onus on vulnerable people whom they encourage to “adapt”.

The “pot paradox”, according to Ms Gallant is that we would implement a levy on producers of carbon dioxide while legalizing marijuana because smoking pot promotes emissions of carbon dioxide.

I am not interested in debating whether smoking marijuana legally produces more carbon dioxide than illegal smoking ever did. Nor am I going to discuss the derision which Ms Gallant brings to our area with her claims.

We, our children and grandchildren are the vulnerable people who Ms Gallant and her cohorts think should merely “adapt”.

In Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke we have recently lived through two “floods of the century”. We have experienced summers which have been hotter and drier than our previous norm. Our last winter ended with record snow melt.

The ON hydro scientists at the recent water levels management meetings stated that we are witnessing climate change. Our MP, whose Gallant Night News page states she has a degree in Chemistry with post-degree work in biochemistry, toxicology, pharmacology and environmental chemistry, points the finger at pot smoking and leaves it to individuals to adapt.

Does Ms Gallant, the scientist, not believe in science or does she think she can hoodwink us for political gain?
