The melodies and harmonies were heard from the sidewalk in front of St. Paul’s Anglican Church on Crawford Street in Cobden, Ontario. A full church gathered to celebrate and worship in song on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. to raise money and dry goods for the Cobden and District Food Bank.
Celebrating in song from dusk until night, “we raised just under $1400 in offering donations,” said Rev. Bishop Michael Bird. He is the minister of the Anglican church in Cobden and believes in this time of care and sorrow, helping those less fortunate will keep the fountain of joy alive in each of us. It was an inclusive experience for everyone inside of the small chapel with a large heart and even larger voices.
Guests from across the Ottawa Valley who attended danced in their seats and sang along with the performers. The Intermittents closed the concert with their upbeat songs, array of instruments and harmonious tones. The band encouraged audience participation, which included stomping, clapping and singing.
After the concert, a diligent team of volunteers were seen going back and forth to prepare the light buffet. Guests were encouraged to stay for beverages and light snacks after the presentation of the donation to the food bank’s founder and director, Bonnie Helferty.
