COBDEN — Carmen Miller is the new administrative/planning assistant for the Township of Whitewater Region.
The appointment was announced by Councillor Cathy Regier at last night’s corporate services committee meeting.
Coun. Regier chaired the hiring committee, which included Councillor Chris Olmstead, Chief Building Officer Doug Schultz and Acting CAO/Treasurer Marsha Hawthorne.
Ms. Miller ,who begins working for the township on Monday, Sept. 12, has been employed by the City of Pembroke since 2001 and previously worked with the Township of Hastings Highlands.
“She comes very qualified,” Coun. Regier said. “She has obtained four out of the five programs for the AMCTO. I think she’s going to be a really good fit here, both with staff and council. We’re pleased to have her on board.” (AMCTO is Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario.)
In other office administration news, the Christmas hours for the office were also agreed to by the committee.
Due to how the statutory holidays of Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1, 2017 fall for the holiday season, it was agreed to close the office Friday, Dec. 23, Monday, Dec. 26 and Tuesday, Dec. 27 and Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017.
It was also agreed a policy would be put in place that if Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 fall on a Friday, the office would close at noon.
The Ross Landfill Site will close at noon on Saturday, Dec. 24 and Saturday, Dec. 31, which is two hours less than the regular closing time of 2 p.m.
