New fire chief issues statement

Dear Readers,

Today, the Township of Whitewater announced that I will take over the reins to serve as the Fire Chief of the Whitewater Region Fire Service until the end of December of 2020. I want to extend my sincerest appreciation to the township’s Mayor and Council for the opportunity to serve the people of Whitewater over the next few months.

I am honoured for the opportunity to once again serve in a profession whose mandate it is to protect the lives and property of the people served by our fire service. I am also very excited to also work with a team of dedicated firefighters to provide a service that not only meets but exceeds the Fire Service’s mission, vision and values that we have set for ourselves.  I look forward to once again conducting this duty with the same level of professionalism and passion as I have over my 26-year as Chief of the Renfrew Fire Department.

While I want to focus on the task at hand, I can advise that my current lawsuit against the Town of Renfrew continues to proceed through the courts. While I remain extremely disappointed that my career with the Renfrew Fire Department came to an end in the manner that it did, my new appointment is confirmation that my desire to serve in a profession as I have throughout my adult life has never left me. Because this matter is before the courts, I am sure that you will understand that I need to refrain from any further comment regarding the specifics of this civil action.

Sincerely,
Guy Longtin
