Greetings from the Women’s Insti- tute (WI) for the District of North Ren- frew. The Foresters Falls and Greenwood branches have reported on meetings and activities for the month of August.

Foresters Falls

Six members and one visitor met at the Ross Museum in Foresters Falls at 12:00 p.m. on August 14. A delicious sal- ad lunch was enjoyed around the antique kitchen table in the Ross House. Presi- dent Betty Black welcomed everyone and opened the meeting with the singing of the Ode and repeating the Mary Stewart Collect in unison. Roll Call was “How was your name chosen?” Most were named after grandparents, aunts, friends, being born on a grandfather’s birthday was an easy choice and a combination of the names of two grandmothers was another chosen method. The minutes of the pre- vious meeting were read and approved. The correspondence was read. $40 was received for a first place overall finish at the Beachburg Fair.

Four members attended the 100 year anniversary of Zion Line Branch on August 10. Our branch gave a card and a donation to the Cobden Food Bank in honour of the occasion. The members enjoyed the artifacts displayed, the his- tory of the branch, the fellowship and the delicious luncheon.

A letter was received from the Fed- erated Women’s Institutes of Ontario (FWIO) explaining the cost of the nom- ination of Peggy Knapp to the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame. Unfortunately her nomination was not successful again this year.

A request for support to have a Res- idential Addiction Treatment Service made available for the women in Ren- frew County was received.

The Cobden Fair List was discussed again and final plans made. Betty Black, Alisa Page and Marion Horner set up the display on August 21 and Eleanor Waite brought it home. Alisa Page and Marion Horner sold tickets on the District Quilt at the Fair on Saturday afternoon.

We will also take a shift at the Ren- frew County Plowing Match on Septem- ber 14. Volunteer sheets were completed. Marion Horner was program convenor. She had readings — “Two Many Toma- toes,” “No Garden Variety” and “Summer Stinks.” Betty Black won the Baseball Contest, and Joan Smithers won the, “Give Yourself A Point” quiz. A motion was made to adjourn the meeting.

Greenwood

The branch did not have any meet- ings in July or August. However we set up a display at the Beachburg Fair and came third overall.

Four members attended the 100 year anniversary of the Zion Line WI on Au- gust 10. A card was given to the branch on this special occasion. Members en- joyed looking at the artifacts, listening to the history of the branch, the fellow- ship and the delicious refreshments that were served. The branch hosted the Mi- ramichi Lodge Birthday Party on August 21.

The branch also entered a display at the Cobden Fair, and came first over- all. Two members sold quilt tickets at the Cobden Fair. Members take turns weeding and watering the Greenwood WI Memory Garden during the summer months.
