The Council heard a Notice of Motion that was not on the agenda from Councillor Daryl McLaughlin, who wished for the motion to be discussed at this meeting, rather than the next one.
Councillor McLaughlin said he was looking for direction from Council because there were no legal parking in Forest after construction.
Clerk Carmen Miller said as Councillor McLaughlin wanted it discussed at the current meeting, a two third vote could be required.
The motion was carried with two thirds.
“I got numerous phone calls after the open house.” he said, saying that he was informed that there was no legal parking in Forester’s Falls.
Manager Lane Cleroux said that some residents were concerns that parking would be taken away with the construction.
“They do have a parking bylaw, but they don’t have a parking officer to enforce it, and seeing that the opp officer would enforce that.” he said. “With the new construction, the road will change into a multilane pathway that you can’t park on anyway. The lane will have the same configuration.”
“What other county road is there that doesn’t allow for parking?” Councillor Jackson asked. “It certainly has been used for Annie’s store. There’s not enough parking spaces for the store, for the church, there’s parking in the back for the library but not much, and none for the museum. I don’t understand why they didn’t account for that when redoing a small hamlet like that. There has to be some way of recognizing that there is a need for some parking.”
“There are some places in Beachburg where they do not allow for parking but people do. I don’t know what spurred this one, but if there’s no parking then they have to post it, we certainly have to get back to County on this.”
“I think as a followup to this, we could communicate with the engineers to see if we can develop on-street parking similar to Cobden, see what width of road do you need to do this.” Burton said. “I think in the next day to so communicate with the County on this.”
“If there’s a parking problem on all county roads, we should address that.” Councillor Nicholson said. “Find a solution if possible for everything.”
“There may be sections of the road that will allow for parking.” Jackson said. “Without seeing boots on he ground, we can’t determine that.”
Mayor Moore said that nothing was post
“It just seems like Renfrew County, they just do what they want to do.” Councillor Dave Mackay said. “It’s like a Nazi regime.”
“Well, this is where we have to speak up.” Mayor Moore said, laughing.
The motion was carried for Ivan Burton to carry this forward to council.
There were no other notice of motion.
