Beachburg, ON (May 25, 2022) – The Ontario’s Highlands Tourism Organization (OHTO) is thrilled to announce the Our Connections marketing campaign and video/content series has been recognized on a national level with three awards for excellence.

The Our Connections video series was awarded a Gold Telly Award for Social Video – Series: Travel & Tourism. The Telly Awards were founded in 1979 to honour excellence in local, regional and cable television commercials with non-broadcast video and television programming and receives over 12,000 entries from around the world each year.

The “Connected to Water” video from the Our Connections series was also the 2022 Official Selection for the Paddling Film Festival Voices Program as well as the Official Selection for the Outdoor Outdoor Film Festival.

“We are humbled to have received this recognition to the Our Connections series from the video and tourism industry,” said Julie Mulligan, Marketing Director for OHTO. “This marketing campaign and video series was exciting to pull together, and so worth the effort in terms of highlighting the uniqueness of our region and the people who live here. We were grateful to be able to do our part in driving support for the local tourism industry as it recovers from the impacts of the pandemic.”

Launched in summer 2021 and running until spring 2022, the Connections Series showcased the stories of seven inspiring locals and their unique connections to the region, in an effort to ignite local tourism, support businesses, and celebrate what makes Ontario’s Highlands’ people and places so special.

Over the course of the campaign, seven episodes were released featuring kayaker Stefi Van Wijk, musicians Nick Russell and Benton Brown, traditional hide tanner Amber Hein, award-winning chef Ian Carswell, yoga instructor Ro Nwosu, outdoor guide and accommodator, Andrew Twigg, and ice climber and guide, Lorne Foisy.

The docu-series was produced by Ben Hemmings Media, a local videographer with a talent for capturing the voices and stories of local storytellers like those featured in the campaign. The series included content marketing pieces focused on tourism experiences that aligned with the video theme.
