Only two people have filed papers in Whitewater Region

WHITEWATER REGION — It’s been two weeks since those seeking an office in municipal politics could sign up.

In Whitewater Region, two names are on the list.

Dave Shields is running for trustee for the Renfrew County District School Board.

Cathy Regier, a current councillor with the Township of Whitewater Region, is hoping to move up the ladder to the reeve’s chair.

Reeve Terry Millar, who was elected in 2014, has opted not to run again.

Mayor Hal Johnson and Councillor Dave Mackay are each seeking re-election, but have not filed papers.

Councillor Daryl McLaughlin will run in the next election, but hasn’t yet decided which position.

Councillors Charlene Jackson and Chris Olmstead have not yet made a decision.

No campaigning is to occur until nomination papers have been filed.

The deadline for filing nomination papers is 2 p.m. on Friday, July 27.

The municipal election is Monday, Oct. 22.
