RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have concluded their Canada Day Long Weekend Aggressive Driving Campaign which took place from June 28 to July 1, 2019.

The province-wide effort saw OPP officers focus on speeding drivers and all other forms of aggressive driving – which include following too closely, unsafe passing and lane changes, failing to yield right-of-way, and other dangerous, high-risk driving behaviours.

Over the course of the traffic safety initiative Upper Ottawa Valley OPP officers laid several charges including 32 speeding charges, seven hazardous moving violation charges, and five seatbelt charges.

Officers also laid two impaired driving charges under the Criminal Code and three charges under the Liquor Licence Act. Three charges were also laid by Upper Ottawa Valley OPP marine patrol officers who were patrolling area waterways over the long weekend.
