• Council gave approval for the Valley Gospel Chapel to use the Cobden Veterans Memorial Park from July 29 to August 7for its annual gospel tent meetings.
This has been ongoing for the past 16 years, noted Chief Administrative Officer Robert Tremblay. He noted the group will provide the necessary insurance coverage as well as have services located, such as Bell Telephone wires, etc.
• Jp2gConsultants Inc. have been awarded the contract for the reconstruction of John, Truelove and Crawford streets in Cobden. The cost of the contract is $198,549 (including HST).
• Council passed a bylaw to establish an Outstanding Youth Bursary. There are four criteria for the bursary to be awarded: community contribution; school leadership; young athlete and arts and culture. The student must be a resident of Whitewater Region and attend one of seven high schools in the area. The bursary amount will be determined annually during budget deliberations.
• G.P. Splinter Forest Products Ltd. was awarded the gravel crushing tender at a cost of $117,634 (after HST rebate).
• H & H Construction Inc. was awarded he patching contract at a cost of $13,310.22 (after HST rebate).
• A sidewalk machine tender was awarded to FST Canada Inc. at a cost of $155,529.07.
• Council has been in discussions with 4277 Squadron regarding the erection of a monument in Cobden Veterans Memorial Park. While it had been agreed to earlier, council signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the construction and maintenance of the monument.
