Original Owner of The Candlewick Gift Shop & The Store Next Door

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Patricia “Trish” Dupuis of Cobden, Ont. at 66 years of age. Trish passed peacefully in the early morning of April 3. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Clem Dupuis, their three daughters, Lisa, Shara (Art), and Michelle (Shawn), and three grandchildren, Gabriel, Summer and Daley. Trish was born on February 20, 1954 in San Diego, California. In 1972, she moved to Cobden, Ont. to marry Clem, the love of her life. After leaving California, Trish never lost her attachment to the ocean and traveled frequently with Clem during winter months in search of sand, sea and sunshine, often visiting close friends and family. Trish was known for her creativity, style and impeccable eye for detail. She found the perfect outlet for her talents when she and Clem opened The Candlewick Gift Shop, and later, The Store Next Door. Trish poured her heart and soul into making the stores a welcoming destination for those near and far, and she will be remembered for revitalizing Main Street with their success. She will also be remembered for stepping up to save the local newspaper with Clem in 2010. Trish adored her community and was adored in return for her generosity, kind heart, and joie de vivre. Memories of her unforgettable smile, laughter and hugs will live on in the hearts and minds of all those who knew her. Trish’s life was forever changed with her diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia-primary progressive aphasia at age 62. She faced her diagnosis with acceptance, courage, and her adoring husband and children by her side each step of the way. A special thank you to the staff at Caressant Care and dear friends who found the strength to support Trish along her journey with their visits. Much gratitude also goes to all those who have kept, and continue to keep, our family in their hearts as we grieve this final loss of our matriarch. A celebration of Trish’s life will be announced at a later date due to current circumstances. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation to the Cobden Food Bank in Trish’s memory.
