RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — In an effort to improve traffic flow, and facilitate safer, more efficient patient pick-ups and drop-offs, the Pembroke Regional Hospital will trial a new traffic flow pattern in its Emergency Department parking lot, located off Deacon Street, starting December 2nd.
“Our Patient and Family Advisory Council has asked us to change the existing traffic pattern so that those driving into that area to drop off or pick up a patient will be positioned with their vehicle’s passenger door opening towards the Emergency Department and our Tower B and C entrances,” said PRH President and CEO Pierre Noel.
While there have previously been attempts to adjust the traffic flow in this manner with the use of “One Way” signs, Mr. Noel said that this wasn’t effective as both access points to the parking lot still had two lanes.
Starting December 2nd the hospital’s parking operator, SP+, will introduce barriers at both points of entry in order to limit the traffic to a single lane, along with new signage that will identify the “Entry” and “Exit” locations and provide direction for those already located or parked in the lot.
The new entry will be located on the east side of the Emergency Department parking lot closest to Cecelia Street, while the new exit will be located on the west side of the lot closest to Mackay Street.
