WHITEWATER REGION — Whitewater Region Reeve Cathy Regier was all smiles as she sat at the head of council table at the Feb. 6 council meeting.

She was providing council with her first report as the reeve of Whitewater Region. While this was a verbal report, Reeve Regier said each month she will provide a written report.

“I’m still trying to figure out where I fit in,” but is finding her way around, she said.

She sits on three county committees: Development and Property; Operations and the Ottawa Valley Tourist Association.

Reeve Regier noted she attended two full days of orientation days, two full days of budget, which was passed on Jan. 24, as well as various other meetings.

“I’m just starting to get my feet wet and learning,” she said, adding, “Please be patient with me.”

Councillor Daryl McLaughlin is pleased Reeve Regier is on the Operations Committee. He wants it brought to the public works department, again, about the drainage problem behind Ross Museum in Foresters Falls, which is a county responsibility.

“Can you give the county a poke about this,” he suggested with a chuckle.

Reeve Regier advised council that for the first time in 96 years, the Ontario Small Urban Municipalities (OSUM) convention will be held in Pembroke. She noted it wasn’t previously held here because it was believed Pembroke could not host such an event.
