COBDEN — The deadline to participate in Curl for a Cure Bonspiel is Saturday.
There is still room for a few teams if interested in participating, noted organizer Shawna McBride.
“Don’t miss out on the fun,” she said. “You don’t have to be an experienced curler.”
The event is Jan. 16 and 17 at the Cobden Curling Club, she said. The cost is $100 a team, which includes three games and a turkey dinner. For dinner only, the cost is $12.
This is a fundraising bonspiel with all proceeds going to the Renfrew County Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society.
Explaining the bonspiel, Jessica said, this is not a normal bonspiel as we do not keep track of wins. It is strictly a fun bonspiel where you spin a wheel to determine who gets what points and in the end, the final score is not recorded. There is no overall winner except the Canadian Cancer Society.
Anyone is welcome to participate and you don’t have to be a skilled curler! Deadline to register your team or to order extra supper tickets is January 10 by calling Jessica 613-635-2333 or Shawna at 613-646-7575.
If you want to get additional pledges for the Cancer Society from family or friends please ask for a pledge sheet.
Last year we raised around $3,800.
If you are unable to curl but want to be part of the Curl For A Cure you are welcome to come that weekend to bid at the silent auction, buy lunch on Saturday, or watch the festivities, Jessica said.
If you want to donate a prize for the silent auction, food for the supper or volunteer please let us know as well. We would like silent auction donations to us by Jan. 10 so we can set up before the bonspiel happens.
Thank you for your support!
