The Renfrew Detachment of OPP investigated 300 calls for service between Tuesday, November 20 and Monday, November 27.

Domestic Violence

Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated 15 domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with three counts of criminal harassment. No other criminal offences were alleged.  If you or someone you know is living in or involved in an abusive relationship help is available. Contact Bernadette McCann House 24/7 for support, advice or the safety of a shelter at 1-800-267-4930. The Women’s Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County is also available 24/7 for information and support at 1-800-663-3060.  You could also attend the emergency department of any hospital in Renfrew County and ask to speak to a member of the Assault Response Team. Victim Services of Renfrew County is also available to provide emotional and practical assistance to people who have experienced domestic violence. They can be reached at 613-649-2852 or toll free at 1-877-568-5730. The Assaulted Women’s Helpline in also available anywhere in Ontario to provide free, 24-hour, 7-day-a-week crisis counselling, emotional support, information and referrals via telephone to women in up to 200 languages- completely anonymous and confidential. They can be reached at 1-866-863-0511 and to deaf and hard of hearing women through the use of TTY line at 1-866-863-7868.

Snowmobile Collision Injures Two People

Police are continuing to investigate a snowmobile collision on the K & P Trail in Greater Madawaska Township. Officers and Paramedics responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting the single vehicle collision on Saturday, November 24 at approximately 2:26 a.m. A 16-year-old male driver and his 17-year-old sister (passenger) were travelling northbound on the trail when the snowmobile they were on hit a metal gate near Ashdad Road. The two were ejected. The female was not injured but the 16-year-old male suffered life threatening head injuries. Both were wearing helmets. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision. Technical collision Investigators are assisting in the investigation, which is being led by Provincial Constable Amedeo Jean-Louis.

Impaired Driver

One male is facing charges after a public complaint about a possible impaired driver. OPP officers were notified of a male driving a black SUV on Highway 417 travelling westbound on Thursday night, November 22 at approximately 11:23 p.m. Officers located the vehicle as it pulled into a driveway on McGonigal Street E in Arnprior. The male driver had been drinking and was unco-operative with the officer. The male was arrested for impaired driving and brought to the Arnprior detachment for breath tests. At the conclusion of the investigation Mathew Coles, aged 31 of Arnprior, was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80 mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on Wednesday, December 19. Provincial Constable Jodi Burns led the investigation.

Thefts

A large industrial portable generator on a trailer was stolen from the boat launch on River road in Horton Township on Saturday, November 24 between 5 and 5:30 p.m. The generator was a 2013 Atlas Copco Model QAS25 Gas Industrial Generator on an attached trailer Unit Number 66888. It was black, yellow and white in colour with Battlefield Equipment Rentals stickers on the unit. PC Rick Shikatani is investigating.

Sexual Assault Investigation

Police began to investigate when two teenaged female victims reported they had been sexually assaulted in the past month by a male known to them. The investigation led to a third victim disclosing a sexual assault by the same male. As a result, a 15-year-old male was arrested and charged with 4 counts of sexual assault. He was released on a promise to appear in Youth Court in Renfrew on January 9, 2019. Under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act he cannot be identified. PC Meagan MacLeod led the investigation with assistance from the Renfrew County Crime Unit.
