The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 290 calls for service during the past week.

Domestic Violence
Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated 14 domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with assault and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle; one male was charged with 2 counts of assault, 3 counts of domestic mischief, overcoming resistance by choking, and uttering threats; one male was charged with criminal harassment; and charges are pending against a female for uttering a threat. No other criminal offences took place.

Firearms Charges
On Wednesday, August 23 officers were conducting a RIDE Spot Check at Highway 132 near Riverview Drive in the Township of Admaston/Bromley. The male refused the demand to conduct field sobriety tests and was arrested. A search incident to the arrest resulted in officers seizing a loaded prohibited firearm, ammunition and drugs. Brent Fleury, 27 of Renfrew, was charged with:
• Failing or refusing to provide a breath sample
• Possession of a schedule one substance – Morphine
• 2 counts of Possession of a schedule two substance – Cannabis resin
• 3 counts of Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
• Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
• Carrying concealed weapon
• Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
• Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited weapon
• Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was ammunition
• Possession of a loaded prohibited weapon

Provincial Constable (PC) Sarah Darraugh led the investigation.

Break and Enters
13 break and enters were reported to the OPP in the past week, primarily in Greater Madawaska Township, and several in Admaston Bromley and McNab Braeside.
On Friday, August 25 one victim called the OPP to report they interrupted two suspects breaking in and they fled the McNab Braeside Township home in a car. The male and female suspect descriptions were provided to police and a second call was received from another victim reporting a male and female suspect fled their Pine Grove Road home on foot. OPP Canine and Emergency Response Team (ERT) members attended the area. The canine unit located the suspects in a bush area nearby and they were taken into custody. The female suspect was treated and released from hospital for injuries she sustained while resisting the canine unit.
Roxanne Girouard, 40, of Clarence Rockland Township, is charged with break and enter a dwelling with intent to commit an indictable offence, resisting arrest and 2 counts of breach probation.
Daniel Sabourin, 41 of Clarence Rockland Township, is charged with break and enter a dwelling with intent to commit an indictable offence, resisting arrest and possession of property obtained by crime.
Detective Constable Jodi Burns is leading the investigation with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Service (FIS) and the Renfrew County Crime Unit. The investigation is continuing and more charges are expected.

Sexual Assaults
Officers are investigating a sexual assault. The victim advised the offences took place in the late 1970’s to mid-1980’s. The suspects are known. The investigation is ongoing.
One male was warned for sexual assault after police investigated a sexual assault complaint. The victim reported she was touched in a sexual manner by a male customer at a Renfrew business and the victim requested a warning be issued. PC Marc Bennett identified the male and issued the warning.

Thefts
A cell phone was stolen from a patron while at the Renfrew Public Library on Wednesday, August 24 shortly after noon. The Apple IPhone 5S was in a black case at the time.
A wallet, sunglasses and a multi-tool were stolen from an unlocked car on MacDonald Street south in Arnprior overnight on August 20.

Stunt Driving Charges
On Monday, August 21 at approximately 5:32 am PC Patrick O’Connor stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 17 in the Township of McNab Braeside. The driver was travelling in excess of 50 km/hr above the posted speed limit. Daniel Plouffe, 31 of Renfrew, was issued a summons to appear in court in Renfrew on October 27. His licence was suspended for seven days and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
On Saturday, August 26 at approximately 2:10 pm Sgt Derek McLeod stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 417 in the Township of McNab Braeside. The driver was travelling in excess of 50 km/hr above the posted speed limit. Renee Marie Davis, 49 of Petawawa, was issued a summons to appear in court in Renfrew on September 15. Her licence was suspended for seven days and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
On Sunday, August 27 at approximately 9:59 am PC Jason Golds stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 417 in the Township of McNab Braeside. The driver was travelling in excess of 50 km/hr above the posted speed limit. Paul Dunn, 26 of McNab Braeside Township, was issued a summons to appear in court in Renfrew October 27. His licence was suspended for seven days and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
