RENFREW COUNTY (Renfrew) — The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 403 calls for service.

Domestic Violence

Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated 14 domestic disputes during the past week.

  • One accused was charged with assault and utter threats,
  • One accused was charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault,
  • One accused was charged with fail to comply with recognizance,
  • One accused was charged with two counts of fail to comply with probation order,
  • One accused was charged with sexual assault, overcome resistance by attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle another person, utter threats and two counts of assault,
  • One accused charged with two counts of fail to comply with conditions of undertaking given by an officer in charge.

You could also attend the emergency department of any hospital in Renfrew County and ask to speak to a member of the Assault Response Team.

Victim Services of Renfrew County is also available to provide emotional and practical assistance to people who have experienced domestic violence. They can be reached at 613-649-2852 or toll free at 1-877-568-5730. In emergencies call 9-1-1.

Impaired Driving

On June 30, 2019 officers from the Renfrew OPP Detachment responded to a motor vehicle collision on Calabogie Road in Greater Madawaska Township. As a result of the investigation Joshua MATECHUK, 30 years old, of Quyon, Quebec has been charged with, failure or refusal to comply with demand, theft of a motor vehicle, operation while impaired and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on July 17, 2019

Mischief

On June 27, 2019 officers from the Renfrew OPP Detachment responded to a mischief call in the Town of Renfrew. As a result of an investigation Brandon MCCANNA, 35 years old, of Renfrew has been charged with utter threats to cause death or bodily harm, possession of a schedule one substance believed to be methamphetamine and two counts of mischief under $5000.00. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on August 7, 2019.

Threats

On June 26, 2019 officers from the Renfrew OPP Detachment responded to an unwanted person call in the Town of Renfrew. As a result of the investigation a 15 year old has been charged with uttering threats and counselling suicide-no loss of life. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear.

Unintentional 911 Calls

The Renfrew OPP would like to remind members of the public to make sure they take the proper precautions with their cellular phones to make sure that unintentional calls to 911 are reduced. This past week officers with the Renfrew OPP Detachment investigated 33 accidental or pocket dial 911 calls. All these calls are required to be investigated and take officers time to investigate. Please make sure to do your part to help reduce these calls. You can prevent pocket dials or unintentional 911 calls by:

Using the keypad lock feature. Keypad locks, some of which can be programmed to activate automatically, prevent a mobile device from responding to keystrokes until the user unlocks the keypad using a short combination of key presses or password.

Turning off the 911 autodial feature. Check the user manual or the manufacturer’s website or call the service provider to determine whether your device has this feature and how to turn it off.

Refraining from programming a wireless device to automatically or “speed dial” 911.

Stolen Vehicle

On June 29, 2019 an officer with the Renfrew OPP responded to a stolen vehicle call in the Town of Arnprior. The vehicle is described at a Cady SRX 07’, blue in colour. The investigation is continuing anyone with information is asked to contact the Renfrew OPP.

Traffic Enforcement

On June 29, 2019 an officer with the Renfrew OPP was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway Seventeen, in Whitewater Region Township. As a result of a traffic stop Joseph GAGNON, 37 years old of Ottawa was issued a summons for race a motor vehicle, excessive speed.

On June 29, 2019 an officer with the Renfrew OPP was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway Seventeen, in Whitewater Region Township. As a result of a traffic stop Patrick BEAUDOIN, 23 years old of Pembroke was issued a summons for race a motor vehicle, excessive speed.

On June 29, 2019 an officer with the Renfrew OPP was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway Seventeen, in Whitewater Region Township. As a result of a traffic stop Ryan HAINES, 28 years old of Petawawa was issued a summons for race a motor vehicle, excessive speed.

The penalty for stunt driving can include;

  • Immediate seven (7) day driver licence suspension
  • Immediate impoundment of vehicle
  • Two year driver licence suspension upon conviction
  • Fine between $2,000 – $10,000 upon conviction
  • Jail up to six months upon conviction
