WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — On September 4, the Development & Planning Committee recommend the Council of the Township of Whitewater Region direct staff to apply for a grant under the Rural Economic Development (RED) program. This is for the preparation of a Business Retention and Expansion program.

A new round of funding was launched by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs under the Rural Economic Development (RED) program. The program provides cost-share funding to support activities which create strong rural communities and support economic development. This helps to address barriers to economic development, better position rural communities to attract and retain jobs and investment, and invest in rural communities to help diversify and grow local economies. The provincial portion of funding would represent up to 50 per cent of eligible project costs, to a maximum of $150 thousand. The submission deadline was September 9 and was motioned and carried, being seconded by Councillor Dave MacKay. Successful applicants will be notified in December or January 2020.
