RENFREW — Renfrew Victoria Hospital announces a renewed commitment to women’s health with the return of gynecological services to its Ambulatory Care clinics.
Dr. Nika Alavi and Dr. Sukhbir Sony Singh, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Ottawa Hospital, will be providing the new services which include consults, office procedures and some minor surgeries.

Dr. Alavi is an Obstetrician-Gynecologist in the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Ottawa Hospital, General campus. She completed her medical degree in Tehran University of Medical Sciences, where she also completed a residency training in obstetrics and gynecology. She completed a second residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Ottawa.
Her community-based practice includes both Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Origyns Medical Clinic. She is part of the Obstetrics call group at the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital. She also provides specialized care at the Ottawa Hospital’s Shirley E. Greenberg Women’s Health Centre, Family Planning clinic. She is completing her Master of Education Concentration in Health Professions Education at the University of Ottawa and is the site lead for undergraduate medical education in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the General campus.
Dr. Singh is an Associate Professor and the Vice-Chair of Gynecology within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Ottawa Hospital/University of Ottawa. He is also an Associate Scientist and the inaugural Dr. Elaine Jolly Research Chair in Gynecologic Surgery at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
He completed his medical training at the University of Western Ontario and completed fellowships in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at the University of Toronto and University of Sydney, Australia. He has developed a nationally recognized tertiary level clinical practice in complex surgical gynecology with a focus on endometriosis and uterine fibroids.
The clinics will be held weekly with the first one taking place on June 1 in RVH’s Ambulatory Care department. The first surgery date is planned for June 18. Patients must be referred to these services.
