RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — The County of Renfrew is highlighting why it’s important to support local businesses, especially as the COVID-19 crisis stretches into its fourth month.

“The County of Renfrew recognizes the many hardships all our businesses and residents are facing”, said Renfrew County Warden Debbie Robinson.

The County stresses businesses are the lifeblood of our communities, creating the jobs and employment opportunities relied on for ourselves and our families.

“They create the character of our towns and villages, and directly support and sponsor many of our sports, cultural and social events and activities,” said the County in a press release. “Local business is a vital contributor to our tax base which supports our essential municipal services and recreation facilities.”

The County of Renfrew said it is proud to launch their “Shop the Valley Contest” to support all local businesses. They want to encourage residents to shop local, supporting the business community. The County said to have fun doing it safely during this health crisis.

Participating merchants will be from across the County and the Ottawa Valley. They will be selling all kinds of products and providing all kinds of services. The merchants have generously contributed a broad range of prizes to the first “Shop the Valley Contest”.

“It is easy and you can enter as often as you wish,” wrote the County. Shop local at restaurants, stores, garden centres, craft brewers and more. If you shopped in-store or did a curb side pickup, take a picture of yourself [selfie] in front of the business. If you ordered on-line, take a picture of the food or product you ordered and submit the photos with the receipt to [email protected]

“The COVID-19 Crisis has been a disaster for all our businesses, large and small.  Our “Shop the Valley Contest” is one way to re-kindle and enhance the vital relationship between businesses and residents,” states the Warden. “Go on-line, make a phone call or visit a re-opened local business and Shop the Valley!”

Warden Robinson has been deeply involved with the Renfrew County Economic Task Force, composed of business leaders from all sectors and from across the County who are advising County Council on the business issues and challenges they face during this economic crisis.
