Construction has begun on Truelove Street in Cobden.

WHITEWATER REGION  — It’s going to be a dusty, dirty and noisy summer for those who reside on Truelove Street and certain areas of Crawford and John streets.

Throughout most of the summer, these three streets are undergoing a full reconstruction, said Janet Collins, manager of physical services for Whitewater Region. This reconstruction includes new water and sewer works, sidewalks and road.

The cost of the project is $1.5 million, with it being split three ways, she said. Seventy-give percent of the cost will be picked up by all ratepayers within the township, while 20 percent will be paid for by those who use the water system in Cobden and five percent for those who use the sewage system.

The reconstruction project was awarded to RGT Clouthier and will be working 12-hour days.

While there will always be access to all three roads, Ms. Collins noted there will be short periods of times when it may be in the best interests of the public to close certain areas.

The sidewalks on Main Street from John Street to Pembroke Street will also be rehabilitated, she said.

Ms. Collins also provided a road rehabilitation schedule to council at last Wednesday’s council meeting.

It was noted several of the tenders were awarded to Greenwood Paving.

The tentative work schedule indicates:

Mowat Road (Aug. 7 to 17); Hydro Bay Road (Aug. 7 to 21); Highcrest Trail (Aug. 14 to 21); Turcotte Road (July 9 to 13); Indian Road (Aug. 13 o 27); Anderson Drive (July 30 to Aug. 21) and Watchorn Road (Aug. 2 to 21).

The tendered cost for the total projects is $843,758.
