I have had the privilege and honour to be a municipal councillor for 23 years and I would like to thank the people of Beachburg and the Whitewater Region for their support for these years, and for allowing me to indulge in municipal politics which has become my passion. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in office and would recommend it to anyone wishing to become more civic minded.
I would like to congratulate the candidates in the recent election for being brave enough to put their names on a ballot to prove that democracy is alive and well in Whitewater Region and Canada. At this time of year, I urge everyone to wear a poppy and attend a Remembrance Day service somewhere to honour the soldiers who died protecting that democracy.
I wish all the best to our new council and hope that they will actually be able to affect the change that the voters demanded. To the over 50% of voters who did not cast a ballot, I remind you of the old adage: …ï¿½Â‚ï¿½Â¬ï¿½Ã…ï¿½Â“If you forfeit your right to vote, you also forfeit your right to complain…ï¿½Â‚ï¿½Â¬ï¿½Ã‚ï¿½Â.
Good night and God Bless
