Dear Editor:
First, I would like to highly commend you for publishing the Whitewater News. I thoroughly enjoy reading this truly ‘local’ rag.
I am a ‘returned’ resident of Beachburg. I lived here, went to school here and was a Boy Scout here as a youth. I left in 1959 and returned after retiring from the Canadian Military and the federal Public Service in 2005.
Today, I read with particular interest, the piece by Heather Campbell titled, “A change for the better on Main Street, Beachburg,” published in the March 29 edition. My interest stems from having lived in that building in 1957 and 1958. On the ground floor was the ‘Beachburg Restaurant”, owned and operated by my mother, Betty Hof (not Huff), and to the best of my knowledge it may have been the first restaurant in the village. As I youth I lived with my mother upstairs and helped her with the operation of the restaurant as she saw fit.
Betty has a son, a daughter, two grandchildren and a great-grandson presently living in Beachburg.
Sincerely, Conrad Hof
Beachburg
