The Council directed staff to prepare for the opening of the Tourist Booth located at Veteran’s Memorial Park for the months of June, July and August 2022 as well as organizing the Taste of the Valley on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the Cobden Arena/Fair Grounds.

Planner Ivan Burton recognized Debbie Ready for drafting the report.

He said they were preparing the opening of the Cobden Tourist booth in June 1, which was opened last year after one year closure due to COVID-19.

He said that they were seeking to open for the months of June, July and August of this year, and would consult with the volunteers.

He said that the live Taste of the Valley was planned to ‘move forward’, despite being cancelled last year, and that Cobden is the ‘last event” of the ToTV.

He said staff was supportive of the application pending any considerations due to the pandemic.

“It’s great to see it moving forward again.” Reeve Regier said. “Moving forward, I think it will just continue to grow.”

Councillor Jackson asked if the County had any involvement in the events. Burton said that the operations of the events were held primarily by the townships.

Planner Burton said it was originally a ‘cost neutral’ venture in regards to infrastructure, and they would typically recoup the costs from the vendor fees.

Councillor Jackson said Allie Hennessey had taken over the Music in the Park from the late Ted Barron. “I’m very happy to see the kind of music she’s posted.

Councillor McLaughlin asked if the Township took care of the flowerbeds around the tourist booth, which Burton confirmed was taken care of by the Parks and Rec department.

The motion was carried.
