Upper Ottawa Valley OPP investigate armed robbery

RENFREW COUNTY (Head-Clara-Maria TWP) — On Wednesday February 26 at approximately 2:00 p.m., members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an armed robbery on Highway 17, in Head-Clara-Maria Township.

The victim had stopped his vehicle to offer assistance to two persons who were observed walking on Highway 17. Shortly after offering the two persons a ride, one person brandished a weapon and demanded the victim surrender the vehicle. The victim complied, and the vehicle was taken by the two persons. The victim was not injured.

Responding officers, along with the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Renfrew County Crime Unit, and the Canine Unit located and arrested two suspects.

Mathew Sinobert, age 38 of Brunswick House First Nation, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Robbery
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Assault With a Weapon
  • Mischief Under $5000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle

Kayla White, age 27 of Chapleau, Ontario has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Robbery
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

Both accused were held pending a bail court hearing, on Thursday February 27 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
