Brenda Powers-Ross, Director of the Whitewater Bromley Community Health Centre is excited to announce two new upcoming educational sessions promoting mental health and well-being and healthy relationships. Both sessions are free of charge and are open to all members of the community (whether you are a client of not). Light refreshments will be provided.

“Healthy We – Healthy Me”
The World Health Organization (WHO) states, “There is no health without mental health.” The Whitewater Bromley Community Health Centre is committed to mental health promotion and protection and strives to support mental health and well-being in individuals, families and communities.
Many factors contribute to good mental health, including supportive and healthy relationships with friends, family, co-workers and neighbours. We are hard-wired to want and need to feel a sense of belonging and to be accepted. This is why fostering kind and caring friendships, relationships, marriages and sense of community are so important to our health. However, for many, life’s stressors and pressures often push to the side the needed time and attention for relationship-care.
Because good mental health includes having healthy relationships we will be engaging in a constructive conversation called “Healthy We – Healthy Me” in partnership with the Bernadette McCann House…and you are invited to join us on Tuesday June 27th at 7 p.m at the Cobden site of the WBCHC – 70 Main Street Cobden, Ontario. The Bernadette McCann House along with Kristy Dahms the Social Worker/Counsellor at WBCHC will be leading the evening with a presentation on cultivating healthy relationships as a part of maintaining one’s relational and emotional health.
All members of the community are welcome! We encourage both men and women, 16 years of age and older, to join the conversation as we learn about healthy and unhealthy communication in relationships, identifying unhealthy relationship patterns and cultivating healthy ones, as well as information on local resources and counselling supports.

Whitewater Bromley Health Talks
Whitewater Bromley CHC is launching a series of informal educational “Health Talks” facilitated by Dr. Katie Forfar and Registered Nurse Margaret Cliche. Since education plays a key role in how we manage our health, the Whitewater Bromley CHC wants to ensure that our clients and community members have every opportunity to increase their awareness and to build strong healthy lifestyles. “Health Talks” is an informal educational session – not a medical appointment or consultation. You can come and have a coffee with the “Doc” in a group setting and ask a “burning“ question about a medical procedure (ie What is involved when someone gets a pace-maker or has a “stent” inserted?) or about a general health and wellness topic (ie Why is exercise so important? Or Why is it so important to measure blood sugars?”)
Our first session will be on Wednesday, June 28, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at our Beachburg Site, 20 Robertson Drive. All members of the community are welcome! Depending on the response, we hope to offer this informal discussion up to four times a year.
